2. Task 3 - Illustrated Typography Poster
For this assignment, you will create a typographic poster that highlights the "Quote of the Day" using creative typography. Focus on experimenting with different typefaces (mostly sans-serif) and unique design choices to express the quote visually. Utilize Illustrator techniques and small graphic elements to enhance the overall message and design.
2.1 Inspiration
For this project's themed, I have chosen the quote "Do What Your Heart Beats For". It's originally in German --“man macht das, wofür einem das Herz schlägt” from the movie " The Forger".

I’ve drawn inspiration from the contrast between muted, grayscale tones and bright, vibrant colors to emphasize the difference between routine and following one’s passions. The references suggest that I focus on bold, impactful typography, which symbolizes strength and determination, fitting with the theme of pursuing what truly matters.
For my mood board, I imagine including visuals that blend grayscale with vibrant focal points to represent the transformation from dull survival to passionate living. These references inspire me to incorporate energy and vitality into my design.

2.2 Sketches/ Draft
I want the design to embody the energy and joy of following one’s true passion. A character radiates vibrant hearts in red, pink, and orange, symbolizing dreams and desires bursting from within. I also want to use bold typography for the quote to amplifies the excitement and determination, while the swirling colors around the character’s heart convey a rhythmic, pulsing beat. I hope this piece inspires viewers to connect with their inner passions and live authentically, celebrating individuality and purpose.

2.3 Design Process
After showing my sketches and getting approval from Mr. Hafiz, I started turning them into digital designs. For this project, I mostly used the Pen Tool and the Curvature Tool. To make the "heart stream," I followed the flow of my sketch.
For the colorful core, I first tried using the Ellipse Tool, but it looked too neat and symmetrical, which didn’t match the style I wanted. So, I switched to the Pen Tool and drew it by hand for a more natural look.
For the heart-shaped text, I tried using the Warp Text method at first, but it looked strange and didn’t resemble a heart at all. Instead, I used the Curvature Tool to shape the text into hearts.
For the other text, I kept it the same as in my sketch. I used the Aclonica Regular font, which I downloaded from Google Fonts. To make it stand out, I added a radial blur effect to give it a beating-heart look.
For the stars, I used the Star Tool and Polygon Tool to create them. With the Polygon Tool, I used the Pucker & Bloat effect to shape them into stars.

Before exporting the elements to Adobe Photoshop, I experimented with their composition. I came up with two versions, and I personally prefer the first one. In this version, there’s a cut-out in the background image, which makes the heart stream element feel more natural.

After testing things out, I started exporting the elements into Adobe Photoshop. I created two design versions. Instead of cutting out the background, I decided to add a pink stream. Cutting out the background would have left a white area, which would make the heart stream lose its impact. I also added a lens flare effect to emphasize the bursting energy and highlight the message of the quote.
I also presented both designs in class to Mr. Fauzi and Mr. Hafiz. They both agreed that the second design was better. Mr. Fauzi pointed out that the word placement could cause misreading, so I noted his feedback and worked on rearranging the text for my final design. Mr. Hafiz suggested adding more layers to the text, as the current design made everything appear flat. I considered this feedback while refining the final version.

After receiving the feedback, I brainstormed and decided to change the text composition while keeping the hands in front of the text. Placing the text behind the shirt would create another issue, making the poster harder for the audience to read. So, I chose to keep the hands in front of the text to ensure clarity.

3. Reflection
This task challenged me to combine creative typography with meaningful design to visually represent the quote "Do What Your Heart Beats For."
I aimed to create a design that visually transitions from monotony to vitality. The use of bold typography was key to reflecting the determination behind following one's dreams, while the vibrant "heart stream" symbolized energy, individuality, and purpose.
The initial sketching phase allowed me to translate abstract ideas into tangible concepts. Digitizing these sketches in Illustrator was both a creative and technical process. One challenge was the heart-shaped text. Using the Warp Text method did not produce the desired result, so I shifted to manually shaping the text with the Curvature Tool. This adjustment helped me achieve a more natural and impactful look.
Feedback from Mr. Fauzi and Mr. Hafiz improved my design. Mr. Fauzi’s suggestion to adjust word placement and Mr. Hafiz’s advice on layering text enhanced readability and depth.
Overall, this task taught me the importance of experimentation and adaptability. Feedback showed how small changes can significantly improve a design’s impact.
