Reflection
Experience
This module was challenging, yet rewarding. It really pushed me to think of typography not just as setting text on a page but as a storytelling and communicative device. The best part was playing around with different typefaces and layouts to see which combination best conveyed the mood. Still, everything did not come that easily—alignment, spacing, and hierarchy really tried my patience. With this project, each step has been one for growth, yet satisfaction I found within seeing my first ideas morph into a cohesive end product.
Observation
This module has taught me that behind making typography effective, a great amount of thought and precision are put into it. The small things, like adjusting the spacing of letters or height of lines, had dramatic impacts on the readability and aesthetic of the design. I've also seen how typography relates to the other elements that come together in design—color, imagery, etc., in harmony to communicate a single message.
Finding
This was my journey of investigation into typography's place in design—from how to gain insight and knowledge about why typography can be such a big tool in design, to understand that good typography is not just about selecting gorgeous fonts, but more in creating balance, harmony, and clarity in a format. Another key takeaway is the large storytelling potential that exists with typography; every choice from font to alignment has the tendency to subtly shift the storyline of a design. This project really drove home the attention to detail, and I learned even the most minute tweaks can really lift a design. Later, I will be more thoughtful and appreciative of typography in its capability to alter visual communication.
