Reflection
Project 2 was a multifaceted journey that allowed me to explore various design techniques, including double exposure portrait creation, poster design, and motion graphics using After Effects. Each task built upon the previous one, providing valuable insights into visual storytelling and creative expression while challenging my technical and creative abilities.
For Project 2A: Double Exposure, I began by following a tutorial to understand the technical aspects of creating a balanced and harmonious composition. Applying these skills to my own double exposure portrait was both a challenge and an opportunity to personalize the technique. I learned to carefully balance two images so that neither overwhelmed the other, resulting in a cohesive piece with a unified narrative. This project deepened my appreciation for the power of layering and its ability to evoke emotions and tell compelling stories.
In Project 2B: Poster Design, I created a poster inspired by the quote "Do What Your Heart Beats For." This task pushed me to think critically about the interplay between typography, imagery, and hand-drawn elements. Collaborating with the IVN module added complexity, as I needed to incorporate both my portrait and hand-drawn text into the design. Through this process, I explored vibrant color contrasts and dynamic layouts to reflect the energy and passion of the quote. The combination of bold typography, personal imagery, and illustrative elements made the design feel authentic and emotionally resonant.
The After Effects introductory exercise marked a significant step in developing my motion design skills. It allowed me to familiarize myself with key tools and techniques, such as keyframing and easing, which added movement and depth to my designs. This exercise demonstrated how animation can transform static visuals into engaging, dynamic stories, opening new creative avenues for future projects.
Overall, Project 2 was an enriching experience that enhanced both my technical and creative skills. It taught me the importance of precision in execution and the value of aligning design choices with a central message. Each component of the project offered unique challenges and opportunities, ultimately contributing to my growth as a designer and storyteller.
